UnLtd India is an accelerator for high impact early stage social entrepreneurs. We offer intense non financial support and a small amount of start up funding. Choosing to support ECF was an easy decision given the strength, innovation and impact of the model and the quality of the team. Will and Rujuta are inspiring, entrepreneurial, humble and impact driven individuals who add significant value to our peer group.
I met Will Muir through the British Business Group Pune in 2009, even before ECF has actually started. He explained the idea of Equal Community Foundation to me and I thought it was an excellent concept because everyone looks at the women as victims and tries to help them, but not many people think about the root cause. And that’s what I really like about the concept. I think ECF has been very focussed about what it wants to achieve and is firmly on the path to doing exactly that. The foundation has been very careful about quality and I think that’s the fundamental strength.
ECF joined Dasra Social-Impact as part of cohort 5 in 2011. Our team visited the work on the ground in Pune and were impressed with the approach of embedding ownership of the issue of domestic violence in communities. ECF is an ambitious and innovative organisation, determined to tackle a culturally complicated issue head on, with a very strategic approach. All too often non profit interventions focus on women and girls in isolation. Without including boys and men in the development agenda, programs will fail to provide a sustainable solution to this destructive issue.
ECF has been a part of our investee cohort since 2010 and I have known Will, the founder since 2009. While there are many organisations tackling violence against women, ECF is one of the few organisations that believe in changing men’s attitudes as a key factor in reducing violence. Over the years, we have seen the ECF team consistently work towards improving their model, approach and quality of impact. And for us, this is the true mark of an innovative organisation in the making.
